We never talk and he doesn’t know the hard work I do. How can he give me a decent performance review?

I’m at a loss. I think my manager hates me. My performance review is coming up next month and I’m honestly not sure how he can give me an accurate appraisal because we don’t even talk.

“… I’m honestly not sure how he can give me an accurate appraisal because we don’t even talk”

Maybe it’s a challenge of different communications styles – I love texting and I write emails constantly, while my boss prefers to do face-to-face meetings. The big problem is that he’s travelling almost all the time, so it’s close to impossible to get time with him. What makes it worse is that even when we have one-on-one meetings locked in the calendar, he often misses our discussions as something comes up at the last minute or an earlier meeting overruns. The result is that I’ve had almost no time with him this year and I don’t think he understands all the hard work I’m putting into this job and for this company. There goes any chance I had of getting a decent raise or that promotion.
